Frequently asked questions
There are usually several stages of a cold sore. The first stage involves tingling and itching around the lips for a day or so before a hard spot appears, and blisters erupt. The second stage involves the formation of small fluid-filled blisters along the lining of the lips. Finally, these small blisters may merge and burst, leaving shallow open sores that ooze and eventually crust over. [1]
