Frequently asked questions

The exact cause of psoriasis is unknown; however, it is believed to be related to an overactive immune system. This means that the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells, causing them to produce new skin cells too quickly. This leads to the accumulation of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface – the visible red patches of psoriasis.

While anyone can develop psoriasis, it most commonly affects people between 15 and 35. Additionally, those with a family history of psoriasis are more likely to develop the condition, and those with weakened immune systems or certain medical conditions, such as HIV or diabetes. Stress, certain medications, and other environmental factors can also trigger psoriasis.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for psoriasis, and it is not usually something that will go away on its own. However, there are treatments available that can help manage the symptoms and reduce flare-ups, including topical steroid creams and oral medications.

The hub.health medical team prescribes treatment for men and women over 18 who have been diagnosed with mild psoriasis and on medication before. People with severe psoriasis need an in-person consultation with a GP or specialist.

If you’re interested in our convenient online access to psoriasis treatment but don’t yet have a diagnosis, feel free to return once you’ve seen your GP. We’ll be ready to deliver your treatment to your door when ready.

The difference is in their strength and effectiveness. Over-the-counter treatments are generally milder, less effective, and take longer to see results. Prescription treatments are typically stronger and more effective. It is important to speak with your hub.health medical team to determine the best treatment for your psoriasis.

Corticosteroids have proven to help psoriasis and be well tolerated. Always follow the instructions provided by your hub.health medical team to maintain safety and efficacy, and limit the risk of side effects.

Like all medications, there are side effects to be aware of when using treatments for psoriasis. These include burning, stinging, and redness of the skin. Other more serious side effects include skin thinning, stretch marks, and changes in skin colour. It’s important to stop using treatment if you experience any side effects and contact your hub.health medical team.

Of course! Our online platform enables ongoing support whenever you need it. To chat with your clinician, log into your profile, head to the ‘Products’ tab and select ‘Manage Treatment’. This is where you can message your assigned clinician.
