Hair Loss Treatment

Delivered to your door

As the most common cause of male hair loss, androgenic alopecia affects 50% of men by age 40.

Prevent further hair loss and promote regrowth with effective treatments from hub.health.

The hair on the scalp is considered the crowning glory, with the threat of hair loss causing considerable anxiety for many men.

Although noticing the first signs of hair loss can be disheartening, there are effective treatments available to visibly reduce the appearance of thinning.

Finding the right hair loss treatment

Along with having a family history of hair loss, men with male pattern baldness tend to have higher levels of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the balding part of their scalp than in other parts. Therefore, to effectively treat hair loss, it’s important to target the production of DHT.

Once hair loss has occurred over a long period, it can be challenging to reverse, hence the need to seek appropriate treatment upon noticing the first signs of hair loss.

Prescription tablets

Prescription drugs that belong to a class of medications known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (5ARIs) can be used to treat men with male pattern hair loss.

These medications work by blocking the effect of the enzyme 5 alpha-reductase – the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into DHT. Through this action, these medications increase new hair growth and prevent further hair loss.

Topical Minoxidil 5%

Minoxidil is a topical medication used to stimulate new hair growth in the treatment of male pattern baldness.

Although the precise mechanism of action isn’t completely understood, research has shown that minoxidil causes hair to enter the growth phase of the hair growth cycle early, thus increasing the number of hairs growing.

Along with oral meds that lower the levels of DHT in the scalp, minoxidil is one of the most effective treatment options to improve hair growth and stop symptoms of male baldness from worsening.

Side effects of hair loss treatments

Many men who use oral meds to treat hair loss won’t experience any side effects. However, like most medications, there is always a possibility of side effects.

For the prescription hair loss medications hub.health offers, less common side effects may include difficulty achieving an erection, decreased libido, decreased amount of semen released during sexual intercourse, depression, breast tenderness, and pain in the testicles.

Depending on the prescription strength formulation, topical minoxidil’s most common side effects include skin irritation, itchiness, and soreness at the site of application.

When prescribed a hair loss treatment, your hub.health medical team will provide detailed information on potential side effects. It’s important to consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately if you experience ongoing or troublesome side effects related to any hair loss treatment you have been prescribed.

Hair loss FAQs

How does hair loss treatment work with hub.health?

hub.health uses a secure digital health platform to provide discreet, convenient, and affordable access to hair loss treatment from an Australian based medical team, all from the privacy of your home.

After completing the online questionnaire, your assigned clinician will determine if you’re a candidate for hair loss treatment. If you’re successful, we’ll organise fast delivery to your door (we’ll even manage your repeats when they’re due). If your clinician identifies a potential risk in issuing hair loss treatment, they’ll likely refer you to an in-person GP for further review.

What hair loss treatments do you offer?

The hub.health medical team issue prescription medication to treat male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia). Prescription hair loss medication helps to maintain current hair volume while preventing further loss and potentially regrowing hair in areas where it has been lost.

Our clinicians may also prescribe Minoxidil 5% non-prescription as a topical or capsule treatment, which has been proven as one of the most effective treatments for hair regrowth. Your hair loss treatment will be specifically tailored to you, so make sure you don’t share with anyone else, even if they claim to have the same condition as you.

How long does it take to see results?

Hair loss treatment programs can take 3 to 6 months of daily use for visible changes to occur, and up to one year for maximum results. Like all medications, results vary from person to person based on individual circumstances.

Can I speak with my assigned clinician at any time?

Of course! Our online platform enables ongoing support whenever you need it. To chat with your medical team, log into your profile, head to the ‘Products’ tab and select ‘Manage Treatment’. This is where you can message your clinician.
